Do Something

You are a somebody, believe it.   Let’s move on to the second truth.  You are meant to do something!  The second half of Ephesians 2:10, we are “created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  Every once in a while I catch myself starring out the window trying to grasp the best way to communicate the next thought.  I bet I have seen a few hundred cars pass by just this afternoon.   I am a day dreamer.  Many times I find myself excavating obscure thoughts like, “I wonder what the first few people who saw the first car puttering down the road thought?”   Were they looking for the horse pulling the thing?  I wonder if they thought, “That is the craziest contraption I’ve ever seen.  What the heck is that?”   It is hard to think of a world with out cars in our day, we have become so dependent on them.  Nobody looks at a car and says to himself, “I wonder what that contraption is used for?”  The first automobiles were built starting 1885 which is relatively recent in the course of human history.  We all know the purpose of a car is to get us from one place to another quickly.   That is what cars were designed to do.   Do you not find it ironic that in 6,000 years of recorded human history we still struggle to find meaning and purpose in our own lives?    What are we designed to do?  Is it such a mystery?  Or has God already given us the directives that we need.   According to Ephesians 2:10, “we are created to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  God appears to already have the game plan laid before us.  He has already mapped the strategy.  He has prepared in advance the things that we are suppose to accomplish.  I have spent ridiculous amounts of mental energy scheming and dreaming up a grand vision plan for God.   I’ll ask myself, “What great thing can I conceive of that God will bless if I do it?”  Apparently much of my mental energy has been in vain.  God already has in mind the good work He wants me to do.  My success will not be found in my creative schemes but in my attentive listening to God’s directive voice.  I’ve have found this to be a refreshing reality.   When I feel I have to come up with the next BIG thing for God it exhausts me.  When I quiet myself to hear the next step from God I am restored.  The reality is that the majority of God’s plan for us He has already made extremely clear.  We do not have to look very far to find it.  The major stuff is right there in red ink.  All we need to do is open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts to hear it.
